Sales, Marketing, and the Internet Business

The rowdy world of Internet business can be tamed with sound sales marketing policies. But the domestication period definitely isn’t easy peasy!

For our purposes here, marketing is the practice of accessing and persuading prospective clients. Sales are the procedure for obtaining the conversion and completing the sale through such actions as a signed contract, or a finalized purchase. When we put them together, we’ve got a sales marketing strategy — a two-pronged approach to deftly meet your Internet business needs.

Sales and marketing are so deeply intertwined that they are indeed the yin to the other’s yang.  Your Internet business won’t exist without a sales marketing plan supporting it full-time.

And yet, there’s a certain amount of confusion about sales marketing. It’s a vital element of your Internet business that you must understand. The following are some expert tips about sales marketing, both as separate entities, as well as whole:

  • Create specific lists — one for sales, and one for marketing. These lists should demonstrate the areas in both spheres to develop more fully. You’ll also get a clearer sense of how sales are different from marketing and vice versa.
  • What sales marketing strategies are being used by your competitors? This is indispensable information, particularly as you’re building up your own marketing tactics for your Internet business.

  • Once you know what other Internet businesses are doing with their sales marketing, you can come up with creative solutions that can blow open the door on your sales projections.
  • Before you can work with sales marketing as one unit, avoid solely focusing the majority of your funds on your marketing budget — invest as well in training your sales team. There’s no point in rolling out sleek marketing materials if no one can expertly close the sales.
  • A sales marketing approach that worked fantastically last year won’t necessarily bring about the same results again this year. This is a painful but true point. Sometimes it can feel as if the moment your brand-spanking-new sales engine sees the light of day, it already needs a tune-up. Stay flexible and open to tweaking it regularly.
  • Sales and marketing aren’t always happy about bunking together! Be sure to keep an eye out for marketing plans that don’t produce continuous, bona-fide leads for sales. On the other hand, don’t let your sales plan fall asleep at the wheel, because all eyes are on what marketing’s doing.
  • Simple is best when it comes to sales marketing. A quick Internet search reveals many free and user-friendly opportunities out there to shore up your marketing future. You don’t need a lot of bells and whistles. With some straightforward guidance and support, a streamlined sales marketing plan can bring about clear-cut results to your Internet business.
  • A sales marketing design is only as good as the manager who caries it out. Remember that you are your own sales manager!
  • Make sure that your sales marketing design has measurable outcomes. Sometimes people who are new to sales marketing focus more on the emotions around the possible positive results than how to measure the results themselves.
  • Fall in love with your sales marketing blueprint. If you don’t believe in it, then really, who will?
  • A significant question to ask yourself when you draw up a sales marketing outline: Is the human aspect of my Internet business present? Because it’s the relationships that bring about the sale, not just numbers and forecasts.
  • Sales marketing for your Internet business lends itself nicely to partner with social media sites. As a matter of fact, many popular social media sites are a great example of a marketing idea that people want to be a part of. Take advantage of what’s already in place.

There’s a definite learning curve to understanding the world of sales marketing and how it applies to your Internet business. But be patient and persistent; you’ll soon boogie with the best of them!
